I Wanna Be the the Awesome After Picture!

Image
Okay, so here is good news:  the Doritos are officially out of the house.  The Snapple is out the house.  No more of that temptation!  (And seriously, I don't even like Doritos that much.. why did I buy them??) I'm going to consider this past week a failure, but from this point forward I'm going to work really hard to make progress.  I'm really bummed about my knee because it means that, in order to lose weight, I really need to zero in on my diet since I'm kind of limited with the cardio.  I'd rather pig out and then go for a nice long run, haha!  I think I can pretty easily figure out how to make healthy breakfasts and dinners, but lunches and snacks are my weakness. Maureen, any good, healthy, low-point lunch and snack ideas?  In the past, I have snacked on oyster crackers, fruit, carrots, etc.  Sometimes, though, when I snack I'm not really looking for a fruit or veggie.  I know that's bad and I should just get used to it!  ...

All Fired Up

Alright, Katie - here I am! I will not bemoan the various dieting failures I have encountered over the last several years.  Suffice to say, it has not really gone well. But here's the thing: last year, I lost 60 pounds on Weight Watchers (like, legit WW - not the fake way I did it before! Because let's be honest, I didn't know what I was doing.)  Anyway, my point is that, clearly, when I'm focused and motivated, I know exactly what needs to be done to lose significant weight.  So I don't need to do anything other than simply get my ass back into gear. I also know that my life is infinitely better when my eating and exercising habits are healthy and under control.  I will forever wonder why I engage in such destructive behavior when A) I hate the way I feel when I'm doing it, and B) I genuinely love the feeling of eating well and working out.  I've come to believe that there is some kind of psychological and/or emotional disconnect when it comes to this...

Wah wah...

So goal-wise, I haven't quite hit the ground running yet. I did... cook at home. I may have ... used a healthy recipe (sweet and sour chicken and rice?  does that count as healthy? Is a breakfast burrito healthy?  I mean, it has eggs...) I GUESS I had one veggie serving... if you count the very small amount of hash brown potatoes in this afternoon's breakfast burrito :/ I did NOT... eliminate soda/juice. In fact, I only had orange juice and two Snapples today.  Really thinking I should drink a glass of water. Haven't started counting points yet, but here's a look at today's food: Breakfast - 2 pieces of whole wheat toast (2 pts) with peanut butter (3 pts); 1 glass of orange juice (1 pt) Snack - too many Cool Ranch Doritos (has to be at least 8, right?)  (okay, I learned that 12 chips are 3 pts... ) Lunch - one small breakfast burrito (maybe 6?); one Apple flavored Snapple (3 pts) Dinner - sweet and sour chicken (8-11? estimating from other things on the...

Here We Go Again...

Alright, so a new house, new car, new puppy, two kids, and too many pounds later.... it's time to recommence the Coup d' Fat! Went dress shopping with Maureen and Michelle for Ashley's wedding, and after discovering that NOTHING looked good on me, I figured it's time to kick it into high gear to lose this baby weight (because you can only blame the baby weight so long, right?)  Here is my problem with my body now: I started my pregnancy with Noah 7 pounds heavier than I started my pregnancy with Ty. I actually gained less weight with Noah but at the end of the pregnancy was still 3 pounds heavier with Noah than with Ty. At this point, I have lost all but 7 pounds of my baby weight. However, I'm also coping with floppy belly skin (I know not all of this is fat, some is just stretched skin... how the heck do you get rid of that?! I guess just try to get rid of the fat underneath it) and bigger hips. Bleh :(  I'm committed to working out as much as I ca...

Slow Start

Okay, so this week was not really productive. I DID buy those low-point English muffins I ate last time. But they are already gone. In fact, this morning Matt and I decided to make bacon, egg, and cheese muffins with them, and we each proceeded to have two. Probably counterproductive to the whole weight loss plan. Anyway, I wanted to check in to show that I'm at least still PLANNING on making this work. I still need to go grocery shopping for more/better food, though. And now with the added challenge of purchasing diapers and baby food and whatnot, we're trying to figure out how to save money on groceries. So how do you buy healthy food that doesn't cost a lot?? This is my new charge. Anyway, definitely a diet/workout fail this week (which SHOULD have been easy since I was on spring break.) Oh, well! I am determined to make it happen! I think I also need to find the WW book and calculator Kim gave me last time, and that will make this easier, as well. Baby steps...

Coup d'Fat Part 3: Return of the Jiggle.

Alright. So I know you and I spoke briefly about resuming this blog, Maureen. So let's do it! I am bringing to this blog a whole array of added challenges since the last time we did this: 1. I had a baby - and although I am down to my pre-pregnancy weight (almost!), I have flab. How the heck do you get rid of that?? 2. I had a baby - suddenly all that free time I had in the summer to meal plan and to exercise constantly is entirely occupied by feeding, playing with, soothing, doing laundry, and other baby-related activities. Between that and actually having a job that requires some of my time, finding time to work out has been an impossible feat. 3. I had a baby - I am also still breastfeeding (part-time), which means that I can no longer crash diet quite as extensively as I did last time. Ty is still getting SOME nutrients from me, and while I am, at times, okay with depriving myself, I am not okay with depriving my son. Sensing a pattern yet? But here are some realities rega...

I'm bringing Sexy Back...

So, with the birth of 2 boys, the most recent just 2 months ago, this momma is ready for weight loss boot camp. I love how the first few weeks following birth that needle on the scale is on a free fall downward. But, then it stops. And that stinks. Now, it's on me - mother nature has done her share to clean up those extra pregnancy pounds, but the rest of the work has landed squarely on my shoulders. My weight seems to have stabilized at 184 lbs. (Yes, I shared the number... I'm not pleased. But, if I'm going to make this work, I need to take a good, honest look at what's happening). Those last 2 digits need to be reversed in order to be at my ideal body weight. But a 10% loss is my first goal, which I think I can do by summer's end. So, I'm starting back on Weight Watchers again, which I've had great success with in the past. I'm planning for it to work again. Not hoping - hope is too passive. To make this work, I need to be an active partici...
